Design meetups in NYC oriented more towards graphic/visual design?

I like IxDA NYC events a lot. But I am also interested ones that are a
bit more visuals- and graphic-design-oriented. Do you go to any
similar NYC events/communities that are more along those lines?

Who codes your production HTML/CSS/JS?

Who codes your production quality HTML/CSS/Javascript? Where in the
organization do they sit and do they do more than just
HTML/CSS/Javascript (ie, Java, mid-tier, etc)?

I'm trying to gauge how closely connected to the Design resources
they are, are they more aligned to Design or more to Development?

[JOB] Interaction Designer, Anywhere, Manning Publications, Contract

Cool stuff.
I would also try an ecomic like Flight (Flight is not ecomic; but, it could
be):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_(comic)

The guy that owns the comic store (holds the 24 hour comic session) I
frequent suggested Flight and has some affiliation with McCloud. McCloud
wrote that one comic my beloved ux teacher recommended (understanding
comics) and when I went to order the comics my champion IxDA LA leader
recommended the owner suggested FLIGHT.

[JOB] Interaction Designer, Anywhere, Manning Publications, Contract

I am looking for a really clever man or woman to help turn an abstract
vision into something concrete. The vision is of a next generation
ebook.

In the beginning, the ebook will be a web page that does several
things: it will 1. put the entire book on a single page, 2. let
readers add and see each others' comments (text and video) to the
book, 3. provide a social interaction medium for discussions between
readers.

[Event Recap] Chicago IxDA - Encouraging sustainability through online community

Apologies for the late recap!

Last Wednesday we had our April event at Manifest Digital, which was a panel
format with the PhizzPop Challenge team discussing the process they went
through to meet the challenge of designing experiences to encourage
sustainable living in the city of Austin.

optimized keyboards(lay-outs) target users?

Greetings,

there has been a discussion here on who might be target user of redesigned
optimized keyboards (lay-outs) here: professional typist or the one who is
about to get familiar with typing with keyboards?! that is if I'm optimizing
a keyboard in user centred design process, which of those two should be the
one who gets involved in UCD iterative process and gathering feedbacks. One
side says: if a professional typist could type with some optimized lay-out
well, then the one with less knowledge of computer should enter text well
too; the other side says vice versa.

REMINDER: Next Canberra IA Cocktail Hour: 23 April 2009

Hi everyone

The next Canberra IA Cocktail Hour is tonight, Thursday 23 April 2009.

For this meeting, Donna Spencer will share ideas about designing for
different information behaviours. When people use websites and
intranets they are doing more than just ‘finding’ information. They
may be looking for something they know about or exploring something
brand new; filtering through large volumes then comparing results;
getting an overview of a topic or diving deep. They may even think
they want to find one thing, but actually need something entirely
different.
