UX Designer (Software) - Redmond, WA - Erin St. Pierre (RECRUITER) - Full time - Contract, 6months

UX DESIGNER - Software

We are looking for a strong application UX designer for an internal
software application. Are you ready to challenge yourself and take your
design to the next level? Some designers think that software UI is
boring and dry, but those are just the ones who don't understand the
true meaning of pushing the limits. Creating an aesthetically pleasing,
yet functional and smart UI is the hardest, but most rewarding
challenge.

Web interactions and the "old brain"

I was at a conference once, (either SxSW or Adaptive Path's UX Week), and
someone was speaking about banner ads, and how we only see them in our
peripheral vision, which makes us nervous because our "old brain" knows that
shadows moving in the corner might well be a tiger, and we should be on
alert.

Does any of this sound familiar? I'm very interested in how psychology plays
a role in web design, but so far I haven't found any resources on the topic.
Is there anything you can recommend?

Browsing a column of data without using scroll bars

I am working on a project and would like to be able to prevent the display
of the overly large scrollbars that appear when a list of items continues
outside of a frame in a web based GUI. I have looked at several
possibilities including coding to reduce the size of the scroll bars so they
are less intrusive. What I would really like to do be able to load the list
data as needed, as the user moves down / up the list.

Resource estimate for a design

Hi,

I work on interaction design for an engineering/design application. I would
like to get some feedback from the forum on how do you do your resource
estimates for your design tasks.

Most of the times we end up under estimating the resource required to do a
design and have trouble delivering our designs to the Development team on
time.
