Thoughts on Tourfilter

A very good friend of mine designed Tourfilter - we worked together at
Gather.com, and I wanted to know people's thoughts on the stripped down
design - definitely taking a page from my kayak design:

NYC Thanks Andrew Green, Avenue A | Razorfish, and Event Attendees

NYC IxDA would like to thank everyone who came out last night to hear
the ever-humorous-but-always-polite Andrew Green give a great talk
about sculpture, convenience, creativity, context, cats, why the
napkin sketch isn't enough, and What's in Yr Gut -- complete with dual-
screen projection!

Kudos to Mary-Lynne Williams and Avenue A | Razorfish for being a
superb host.

Loan Calculator

Scenario: A loan calculator (for amounts under $50,000 / £25,000)

Option A:
Two sliders (with associated input fields) one for total amount,
second for duration.
Moving the sliders affects a results panel which shows amount
repayable per month & total cost of loan.

Option B:
Three sliders, as option A but this time also including a 'monthly
amount' slider. Moving 'amount' and 'duration' moves the 'monthly
amount' automatically.

qualitative and quantitative research

Good morning!

Does anyone have any experience with "making" qualitative research as
quantitative as possible? This is a rather nebulous idea in my mind for the
moment but I was thinking about something like using images from still or
video footage and tagging those such that they could be coded in a
quantitative way. Sort of like a heuristic evaluation on steroids.

Just thinking...thanks!

Why haven't video calls taken off

It was supposed to be the next big thing but it fizzled out like MMS

An important thing to note is you would have to use the speakerphone
to do video calls (unless you're always on BT headset or handsfree,
which is not true for an overwhelming majority of people) and this
compromises privacy in a big way…no one wants people nearby snooping
in on their conversations.

Would love to hear your thoughts on why it hasn't taken off yet?

I will make a post about the responses I receive and will publish them
in a few weeks for all to see (names are anonymous)

CREATE 2008 in London

Hello fellow Designers, I received this notification about a conference taking place in London and thought of sharing the info with you. CREATE 200824-25 June 2008, British Computer Society, Covent Garden, Londonhttp://www.cs.mdx.ac.uk/research/idc/create2008/ A parallel question: I know that the life cost in London is really high, but don't you think the price of attendance is a bit over the charts?
