How to improve graphic design skills?

If an IxD or usability expert wants to improve their graphic design skills (
e.g. they have a computer
science, engineering, or psychology background), what are some suggestions?

Are there any courses or workshops that are worthwhile?

Thanks,
Russ

Feature-based design, according to the Onion.

It's an oldie, but a goodie.

I swear, I wanna read that at a poetry slam sometime.

Examples of excellent interaction design NOT on the web

OK - slight diversion, since it's not design for the web, but I had to
share this. Was just catching up with a friend with whom I've worked in
the past, and she shared the most exciting project her team has finished
lately:

How cool is *that*?

Seth Godin's 10 steps to a great web site

Sorry if this has already been mentioned somewhere:

Moving and copying "items"

I'm trying to find an easy to use and easy to figure out way to move or
copy items around in a web application. For example, in a document
sharing application where there are different folder hierarchies, what
would be the best way of moving a document from one folder into another.

I've seen some applications which use a "Cut and Paste" method where you
select the item or items you wish to move via a checkbox, click on a Cut
button and then browse to the destination folder and click on "Paste"
button.
