interesting read: Foundations of Interaction Design

There's some intereting blog from David Malouf:
Foundations of Interaction

I really doubt, the elements the David memtioned here, compose the
foundation of interaction design ( who has succeed done this ? :) ), but
it's a interesting (or a bit abstract ?) reading.

How could we deepen the understanding of ixd by these elements?
for e.g., the best elements i every read is from cooper's book, (Persona)
Goal, Senario, etc.

Branding - including .com in logo/name?

Hi folks,

This isn't necessarily IX, but maybe it is. I have a client who is working
on a new app, a portal. Let's say the name is "DirtyChicken". Their logo is
a simple logotype of "DirtyChicken.com"

I've always wondered if the ".com" is necessary in the logo - particularly
because it isn't .net or .org - .com being the most popular. It seems to me
that successful sites brand themselves as what they are indistinct from the
web address (even though the name is the same).

Portland OR F2F on Sept 13th: Design Patterns

Hi folks!

IxDA Portland has been holding social meet-ups in conjunction with
other organizations over the summer. Now it's back-to-school
time...time for us to focus again on topics that are important to our
discipline! :) So let’s have some Case Study discussion of this topic:

Interaction Design Patterns
Do repeated forms and behaviors arise in your work? How do you
identify and exploit patterns? How far do patterns carry across
platforms? What is an IxD pattern, anyways? Etc, etc....

presentation by quicksilver developer

For those of you familiar with quicksilver, you might be interested
to see the developer talk about it. I think it also may be
interesting to interaction design folks in general. Obviously a
smart guy, and I think it is interesting that he talks a lot about
the application in terms of language (subject verb object) etc. I
feel like there's a paper in there on the sapir-whorf hypothesis
(which says the language you use changes your thought process) as it
relates to operating systems. Actually, I'm sure they've already
been written.

Del.icio.us barely working...

Hi all

My apologies if this is off-topic but I hope that someone here might
know the answer to my problem.

I've been using del.icio.us for a while and have come to rely on it.
Over the last week or so, I've had access that is erratic at best,
zero at worst.

I've tried to find out whether it's just picking on me or whether it's
a general problem, but with no success.

Does anyone else have the same difficulties?

Any ideas about what to do?

[PLUG] Adaptive Path's MX East; Early Bird Ends in One Week

Adaptive Path's upcoming conference, MX East, focuses on what it
takes to deliver great experiences. It takes place October 21-23, in
a retreat-like setting just 30 minutes from the Philadelphia airport.

This event bridges the gap between conferences that address the big
vision of design and strategy, and conferences that focus on form-
making and methods.
