Content Inventory Tools

Hey All:
Long-time lurker here. Long time designer/developer, newbie IDer.
Quick question regarding Content Inventories.
Reading through Dan Brown's book, I've apparently been handed one the
most loathsome tasks in the industry. Despite that, I'm happy about
it. :-)
I notice that Dan suggests to use Excel and this seems pretty
standard; however, I've been playing with OmniOutliner on my Mac and
it seems this might be a good tool too.

Lecturer in Interaction Design (Oslo, Norway)

AHO (The Oslo School of Architecture and Design) is in the process
of building up an interaction design group, with teachers,
researchers and PhD students. We already teach Interaction Design at
MA level and are developing other part-time and full-time courses.
We have a clear focus upon the design of evocative user experiences
and work with traditional interaction design and novel designs for
both products and for services.

We now have a position available for a teacher in a full time
position, and are looking for people who are interested in teaching

Career: Deep vs Broad Experience

A question for the more "experienced" folks on the list:

In terms of career advancement and job security, is it better for an interaction designer to develop deep or broad experience, in terms of product domains?

Use of perspective in interfaces

I am trying to find applications or websites that use perspective (depth) to
simulate 3D in the 2D environment provided by the computer screen.

Does anyone happen to know of any examples?

I will appreciate references to any publications as well - research
articles, blog postings, books... anything counts.

IxD summit?

With the IA summit coming up, I was just wondering what is the premier
event for Interaction Designers?

If there is none, B&A would be interested in leading the effort to create
a IxD Summit. We believe IxD is coming into its own as a
profession and as a approach and will be looking to run more and more
articles on it as well (hint hint..)

Boxes and Arrows may have been started as a magazine on IA by IA's, but
those days have long passed (we actually know the difference between IA
and IxD, for example

Mentorship Programs

Does anyone know of any mentorship programs in the IxD field? If
you've been a mentor (or a mentee), what value do you place on this
kind of professional relationship, if any?

I find myself in need of a mentor, but I'm unsure where to look. I'm
also unsure how to ask someone whether they're interested in being a

If you have any suggestions about this issue, I'd love to hear them.

Graphical methods for displaying time elapsed

Hi All,

I'm wondering if there are any references out there that discuss
different graphical methods for displaying time in UI?

The problem: My users will be presented with many alarms over the
course of a 30 minute time frame. I need to display the alarms (in
color) in such a way that it gives them a historical perspective of
1- When the alarm occurred and 2- What color the alarm was...

So far, I'm contemplating:

1_ A histogram/strip chart.
Benefits: It's a common method for displaying two axis.

Designing Legal Terms and Conditions, and Customer Agreement Interactions

Hi all,

I am looking for best practices for the design of customer agreement
interactions, (e.g. Check this box to acknowledge that you have read and
agree to the blah) Also any exceptional and least disruptive design of
legal, regulator[Andrew Robinson] y, customer agreement forms, terms &
conditions, footers, etc.

Any examples would be most helpful.

Buttons in a dialog

Hello all,

I'm currently working on gui and interaction improvements of a
content management application. The application runs in a web browser
but feels more like a desktop application. The application currently
uses a lot of dialog windows where the user can create and manage
different kinds of objects like images, calendars and forms.

Mobile application prototyping tools

Dear All,

i am trying to prototype a photo/video sharing application for mobile and
PC. i was just wondering that are there any tools/environments (preferably
free or if paid then not very expensive) which could help me in prototyping
the application for mobile devices (keeping in mind the different
requirements of mobile screen sizes) and regular PC. The prototype needs to
be an interactive one using only HTML and JS.

any directions?

thanks in advance!
