IxDA DC Reminder: Meet and greet tomorrow (Wed, 12/13)

Just a reminder, we're having a meet, greet, and plan meeting next
Wednesday, 12/13 from 6-7pm.

The agenda is to meet people, greet people, and throw out some ideas
for events for next year.

We've found a Starbucks a block away from Metro Center:

Metro Center is at the intersection of the red, orange, and blue metro
lines and one stop away from the green and yellow lines (change trains
at Gallery Place).

The Starbucks is at 13th and E St.

form and behavior documentation

Hello IxDA-ers,
Anyone use a Form and Behavior spec in their workplace?
If so, do you have a doc you could share? Am just looking for the
content and format of the doc that would serve as a deliverable to the
Dev team.

people's thoughts on a walled community for designers/developers?

I recently came across an ad for http://mintpages.net/ which presents itself
as "A private community for forward thinking designers and developers to
engage in discussions of design and development related topics."

You need to tell some anonymous person how great you are before they'll let
you in. Anyone a member? Do you have a secret handshake? What are the
initiation rights like? Needless to say..

pattern or feature inventory (as in content inventory)

I appreciate the responses so far.

Allow me to reframe this question: I am looking for a method to capture and
present interactive elements on a competitor's site.
I'm thinking of an interaction designer's version of the IA's content
inventory. I want to inventory interactive features, rather than content
and links. Any ideas?

For example, in a previous job I had TechSmith's Morae(R) which would allow
me to capture dynamic aspects of an interaction, or an entire experience. I
do not have Morae now.

Stuck with Visio?

Hello all -

I've done a lot of detailed design work in Visio over the years, and am eager
to moive away from it. Furthermore, I want to buy software for home use that
enables me to open my Visio files and convert them without losing data.

I've tried exporting to other formats, but have not found one that seems to fit
the bill. I've also tried importing into SmartDraw, but that re-renders my
work as a single image.

Am I stuck with Visio? Is there a way to convert to another tool?

Thanks much,
Bret Hekking

[iai-members] pattern or feature inventory

Hi Jay,

I recently analyzed a competitor website from the marketing point of view.
Here is how I went about creating a graphical inventory of 'marketing'
features of the competitor and presenting it:

- I selected one specific (popular) competitor product and analysed
all the ways how the competitor promoted it.
- I took screenshots from the competitor website and pasted it in
multiple slides in a powerpoint presentation (ppt).
- In each slide I circled out relevant design and functional features
and included a small note/comment on it.
- In introduction to th

pattern or feature inventory

ia/IAs and d/Designers,
<no apologies for the cross-post>

Has any of you ever created a graphical inventory of features, design
patterns, or functional elements? If so, please share learnings or
examples. I'd like to hear what format you used, how you presented it, and
what worked or didn't?

I'm specifically considering an inventory of competitors websites. In this
case, if I cataloged patterns, I wouldn't be listing the explanation found
on a usual pattern library, but showing how they visually accomplish
something or behaviorally execute a transition.

Thank you.
Jay A.
