What does it mean to be an interaction designer?

Hi All,

I am toying around with the idea to write some articles based on the high experience density on this list. My situation, coming straight from my education to setup my position on a medium sized company where it didn't existed before, leads to questions valuable for other newcomers who might want to do just the same. It is a experience which leads to questions why things are and how they are from a fresh point of view.

FW: Microsoft Windows Question: DLUs or Pixels?

[also posted on UTEST - apologies for cross posting desperation]

Hi All,

I'm trying to specify a style guide to be followed by a very large
development team using .NET and I want to make it easy for them to
follow it.

Microsoft recommends using DLUs (Dialog Units) as a measurement for
dialog layout. I thought this was an old thing but I noticed similar in
Vista UI guides.

The puzzle is that .NET seems to only support pixel-based layouts, and
these seem bad for all the reasons they used to seem bad.

Your favorite software built in .NET?

Do you have a favorite software built in .NET that you'd like to share? I'm
looking for something that is particularly well design and/or leverages off
the technology to meet user's goals particularly well. I'm on a project
where we are designing for this platform and wouldn't mind being inspired =)

userID name generator and length

Hi all,

I would appreciate if you could all share your insights on the following question:

What is the best practice for generating user ID (userID at something.com) and the ideal acceptable length of userID?

The user ID is generated for the consumer-level mobile device.
As a rule of thumb, I am setting to what is visible on the text field (15char max) and maybe 5 characters more to attach server generated "number" if the user ID already exists.
