Internship in Australia or USA?

Dear all,

I am an Industrial Design Engineering student at the Technical University of
Delft (in the Netherlands) and I would like to know if any of you know a
company in for example Australia or the USA for an internship in the period
of September 2006 till January 2007.

Interaction design is design of time

Talking about job interviews I have just had one for UI Designer job
where I think I have surprised interviewers when I have mentioned that
interaction design is time design (hence more interesting, complex
than visual design). Below is follow up email.

RFID questions

I'm looking at how to connect the information collected from the rfid
reader and link this information to a sever which will then bring up
related items from the database.

E.g A product with an RFID attached to it, with the information of
product detail, manufacturer and what it's uses.

Additional Speakers Wanted for NYC IxDA Wirefarm Event

10-minute presentations from local designers, each showing off
current best practices in prototyping. We already have several

like to share their work and ideas.

If you are interested in giving a short (10-minute) presentation on
your techniques, please e-mail a short proposal to nyc (at) ixda

Search Results Page Design Recommendations

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had conducted any research or could refer me to
research on search results page design.

In particular I'm interested in any design strategies to prioritise paid
search results. For instance in eBay there is a visual prioritisation given
to companies that pay to have their adverts on the site.

To many site users having paid adverts promoted too heavily is a big
turn-off, and devalues the search engine. On the other hand if so little
promotion is given to paid adverts then companies are less likely to pay for
the privilege.

Our President on Personas

Our IxDA president (and new dad) Robert Reimann, that is:

"I believe that a designer's best and most creative work results when
there are some constraints that serve to focus creative thinking. And
what better focus than your users' goals, behaviors, and desires?

credit card entry address fields

I was just designing a pay-by-credit card flow for mobile phones
(reduce text input!) and started wondering ...

1. For US users, are there rules or some other hidden reason why we
demand the user type city and state, instead of just ZIP?

2. For various other countries, are ZIP codes as precise as they are
for US towns?
