BBC Innovation Labs: Invite to Intro day

This may be of interest to IxDA discussants in the UK:

As part of the process of opening up its new media production and development to independent producers, the BBC is collaborating with Creative London, ERDF Objective One, Yorkshire Forward, Screen Yorkshire, North-West Vision, and Unexpected Media on a pilot series of 'Innovation Labs' in February and March 2006. I am working with Unexpected Media to create, programme and promote the Intro events.

Three pilots will run across the UK: one in London, one in the North West and one in Yorkshire.

discuss Digest, Vol 26, Issue 8

Amnon...

I just saw this in a magazine... was it Fast Company or Wired? I know I just
saw it this past week and I was wondering when I could buy one! I'm getting
tired of my OS X dock (always clicking on the wrong app!!!) and want
something else. :)

We often use generic hardware for prototyping - like the idea you have with
the keyboard - and we can update/change between iterations as needed. We do
things like have a 4x9 credit card remote with a printout of the buttons on
top and test different layout/interactions.

Mobile video WAP site recommendations?

Does anybody have any mobile video sites recommendations for WAP? I am trying to find sites but am finding that most of them are in the UK and Europe and won't allow me to access them due to the fact that I live in the US.

Frog Design Mind - Gizmodo article

I thought people would be interested in this article by Frog Sr. Design
Analyst David Hoffer since it brings up an important aspect of interaction
design ... complex systems:

Almost all physical devices have to interact in some context that is
systemic (i.e. non-random)
1. Cars have to fit in lanes, get gas, meet gov't constraints
2. digital cameras have to work w/ PCs, pict bridge printers, Target/Walmart

Physical Interaction Design

I was interested in Lisa deBettencourt's comments about their (Bose's)
design's being rendered in steel plastic etc.
Here's a thought: how about trying to design a generic physical "front end"
that can be dynamically updated. Such a system would enable you to make
changes as and if needed, plus enable your users to customize (and
personalize) their physical interfaces if they like. This issue is obviously
fraught with many problems, but can also be an interesting, maybe even an
exciting innovation for the physical interface world.

IXers working on physical products - HELP!

Hello, all!

I just saw the list e-mails on IXers working on physical products and I'd
like to join the discussion into physical product UI design. I have a
specific project in mind I need help with.

I have just started a new project as the user interface architect working
with an industrial design firm to design a physical consumer device from
scratch for production in 2007.
