Re: User personas and their usage

I agree more with Ravi than William. Most projects I work with have
separate Ixd'er and developer teams. We allow the developers to focus on
what they do best- coding/ db's etc and we Ixd'ers work with personas
etc and come up with UI specs for the developers to work with.

As long as the developers understand the need for Ixd'ers in the team, I
don't see the need to inundate the developers with the design process.

Report Back from September NYC IxDG Face 2 Face meeting of the new season

We came out of summer and decided it was time to re-ignite the NYC IxDG F2F
group. When we were doing the planning for September we saw that Brenda
Laurel was going to be speaking at the Parsons School of Design and thought
that it best not to compete with her lecture, but rather join it. [Note: We
only later found out that Aaron Marcus was speaking that very same week at
Parsons. I'm not sure what we might have done differently, but I want to
personally acknowledge this as both people are valued luminaries within the
discipline of IxD and related UX fields.]

So ...

Rapid prototyping tool

Hi,
I would like to discuss about Rapid Prototyping (RP) tools.
I know this has been discussed before, but my question is more specific and
not web related.
There are some tools available for RP such as:
Kaleido by : http://www.digitalairways.com/kaleido/sol_servp.asp
Rapid Plus by : http://www.e-sim.com/home/index-h.htm
etc.
These are great tools BUT not too easy for designers.
So, does anyone know of a similar prototyping tool which can be easy to
adopt for a designer an

"Name" for product design document / deliverable

My team will be delivering a spec that includes the following sections:
-----------------------------------------------
Functional Description
Concept Map
Use Cases
Mockup / Prototype Screenshots
Taskflow
Interface Elements
Buttons
Icons

The general idea being that marketing delivers an MRD to design;
design deliver "the above" to architecture/development, etc.

So, what should "the above" be called?

I've had the following sugges

Design Team Status Meetings

Do any of you work on design teams that conduct really good weekly
status meetings? I've been tasked with designing a weekly status meeting
for our group of design consultants (who all generally work on different
projects), and I'd like some tips on things that make for a good status
meeting. Also, any advice on things to avoid is appreciated.

Thanks,
-Gerard

Thinking Cap

I just read an article about some interesting work with a new input
device: a cap that reads brain activity, translating thoughts into
actions. I'm very intrigued by the possibilities and challenges such
a technology could enable as it becomes more precise. It's something
that I have joked about on occasion with my colleagues as the
"ultimate user interface." How far could this form of interaction be
taken?

Vending Machine Designers

We have a client who is looking to create a ³limited² edition vending
machine for a potential series of events starting on February Œ06. If
there¹s anyone on the list with this kind if experience, would you drop me
an e-mail? Also, if you have any portfolios online that would be helpful
for us to review, that would be great! Thanks in advance for any help.
