market segments and personas

market segmentation and personas are often thought of as conflicting
methods, but they are actually complementary tools that organizations
can use to design and sell product. does anyone have any thoughts on
this? or any best practice examples?

thanks much,
--a.

Passionate Users

I've read a couple of publications by Kathy Sierra in the past and was today
pointed to this excellent article on her blog.

Poignant and topical, but whilst being a lengthy affair, light enough for a
Friday afternoon.

My employer has been looking to add a solid Information Architect to our
consulting team. I wanted to throw out the basic position specs to see if
there might be any interest from this group. Feel free to drop me a line
with any questions or a resume.

Registration, Account Activation and Forgotten Passwords.

I've read adaptive paths report on Registration and Login and am looking
for more information.

Does anyone know of any other sources?

Something more along the lines of Jakob Nielson's reports where he
explains the processes used and allows you to view the data.

The report from adaptive path was more of an executive summary, the two
sections I was most interested in "Authentication: username vs. email
address and "forgotten passwords: hint, reset, or email?" were two short
paragraphs.

Looking forward to your responses
Tricia

corporate cultures of collaborative design?

What places other than IDEO promote collaborative design spaces, collaborative design spaces and corporate cultures of design?

If there are any use cases out there, that would be great....

RE: pictures of design labs/design rooms

I am looking for pictures of design rooms from creative design firm or design groups in software development companies. Examples would be the design room at Adobe, Peoplesoft, etc.

Basically I am looking for pictures of happy designers collaboratively brainstorming around tables with whiteboards, large sketchpads and hanging their sketches/ideas/brainstorming on corkboards.

Anybody have any? I am trying to build a business case for having a design room and need some pictures to illustrate.

Ajax patterns

For those with a 'design and development of prototypes' slant to their
roles, one of my colleagues was distributing this link on our internal
developer list:

It's well worth a look.

Human-Poultry Interaction

"Researchers have developed a cybernetic system to allow physical
interaction over the internet. The system allows touching and feeling
of animals or other humans in real time, but it's first being tried
out on -- chickens."

"We understand the perceived eccentricity of developing a system for
humans to interact with poultry remotely, but this work has a much
wider significance."
