Hi,
For my class project, my group and I have decided to explore the possibilities of using video captured lectures as a means to supplement discussions outside of class. The idea is that much similar to the iTunes U program, Students would be able to view and share videos of lectures provided by the university. However, our project also suggests the idea of allowing students to bookmark specific times or segments and provide detailed annotations. These bookmarks also serve as a new discussion thread, where other students in the same class can provide additional input, thoughts, questions, etc.
We feel that the educational experience can be enhanced by allowing a new accessible form of learning to students who may not favor large lecture halls or have disabilities like dyslexia. Our group of course still needs to investigate the problem and see if this is even feasible/worth the time, but I would like to ask for your input.
Have you had any experience with similar ideas or have any precautionary notes? Some places to start are distance learning programs or MIT's open education program, but I'm sure there are more examples out there. We are on a quarterly system, so our research and prototyping stages are very short and limited (6 weeks left).
Any information/help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Kevin
